Age 10 — Mom’s red geraniums don’t smell sweet like a flower should. I don’t like them.
Age 20 — When I see a red geranium I remember my mother. She liked their bold color.
Age 45 to present — I live close to the cemetery where my folks rest. I pot red geraniums near their headstone each spring, and they survive the summer no matter the weather, with no care.
Age 68 to present — I plant red geraniums at home so I can enjoy the memories.
After I pass, I hope my children plant them for me.
Note: This week, we were experimenting with how many ways we could write red. Thus, multiple micro flashes go in different directions.β

Sue,
I feel like I could have written this. I still don’t like the smell of geraniums, but every year my sisters and I plant deep red geraniums on her and Dad’s graves. It’s well written with pathos and poignancy.

Thanks, Nan. Itβs nice to know others think the pretty plant stinks.

Sue, it does. I don’t know why they are so popular (okay, it’s a big flowery bloom that is pretty) because in the end, geraniums stink! π

Changing perspectives – I hope the traditions crossing generations too.

I have to work on my adult children to make sure they get the message. Who knows if they will ever visit where ever I end up in ashes.

Adult children often don’t want to consider that prospect.

You are so right , Norah. My son will talk about it, but not my daughter.

That’s pretty much the same for me, Sue. Refusal to discuss doesn’t stop it happening, though, but hopefully not for a long, long time. π

I really like this, Sue. My mom also likes red geraniums.

Amazing how many people like the stinky geranium.

I’m not a fan of geraniums, either, but they do remind me of my childhood home and the sweet memories of summer.
I like where you took this prompt. I think many of us can relate (if not in regards to flowers, then maybe to food, clothes, etc.)

I’m not sure I’ve ever smelled a geranium before. But as for the story = β€οΈ
