Tessa noticed that Michael’s morning routine was taking longer than usual. “Honey, do you feel all right?”
Michael gave her a funny look from where he sat on the bed. “Why do you ask?”
“You act tired and are moving slower.”
“I didn’t think it showed,” he said. “Maybe a type of sabbatical is what I need. Keep up with DC and the band only. That would leave more time for us, and guarantee I would be home when Lexi has her baby.”
Tessa sat beside him and took his hand, “That’s a fantastic idea. I’d love it.”
Written in response to Charli Mills January 2, 2023, prompt at Carrot Ranch Literary: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story about a sabbatical. Who needs one or has had one? What kind of tension could a rest create? Where can a break take your story? Go where the prompt leads!

Nice one, Sue. I love reading your continuing story of Michael and Tess. You are always complete, but still leave me waiting for the next installment. ~nan

I am, indeed, Sue. I have enjoyed reading of their exploits. Are you planning to put them all together in a book some day?
I think it is easy to start liking the characters we write. If we didn’t, it would be rather sad. I mean, look at D’s Pal and Kid, for example. I bet she, like you, knows their whole backstory.

A year ago Christmas, I printed out all the “scenes“ and put them on chronological order. I need to add this past year. I have been asked to write the story of Mac’s Vietnamese girlfriend as a spin off. It’s on my mind. I work better with deadlines. Thanks for asking.

That’s exciting, Sue. I hope you get it finished soon.
For me, it does help to have deadlines. It pushes me to work; otherwise, I procrastinate.

Less is more! These two are going in a good direction.
