The woman with three sons made the white knuckle drive to the ski resort. “I wish your hobby didn’t take us out in wrecker weather.”
“Mom, we always make it to the slopes with no problem. If you’d relax, it wouldn’t seem so difficult a drive. You knew the first time Dad brought us this might be a thing.”
“I remember. You don’t have to remind me.”
“Besides, you’ve never experienced the serenity when the snow falls while you command the hill. You really need to try it with us.”
“Thanks all the same. I’ll wait in the lodge.”
Written in response to Charli Mills January 16, 2024, prompt at Carrot Ranch Literary In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that unfolds during wrecking weather. Now, Iām wondering why she goes with them if she does like the drive or skiing.

I think probably because they are too young to drive. Thanks for dropping by.

They need to take up cross country skiing. Cheaper and it starts at the front door.

So I dreamed last night you were in Hardwick and we were cross country skiing snow covered streets. We were both wearing bright red sweatshirts and bright blue pants. like we’d shopped at a Dr. Seuss outlet. We both were working on a book of poetry, yours was quite thick. You ended up back at your house (in Hardwick) to work on it and cook with a granddaughter. I skied a bit more then got there. I was put in charge of reading your book and helping come up with a good title while you and Charli were cooking in the kitchen, and now you two were wearing matching white collared button down shirts. Sorry I had trouble focusing on your poems and woke up then.

I’m sorry my poetry was boring! But, I’ll take that Charli and I were in your dream as a compliment. Could the red and blue ski outfits have been in honor of the Buffalo Bills. That color combination is very prevalent in my local area. Button down white shirts? It wouldn’t be long before there was a smear of food on mine.
Maybe in the long run this means we are indeed supposed to meet in Denver. The conference is Oct. 10, 11, 12. Happy skiing. I tried that when I was young, very young!

It wasn’t boring, it’s just that I was, in fact, sleeping, and needing to wake up.
