I do like my coffee most any time of day but I’m not one to pay for it away from home. I will admit to paying the price when I am out for the evening, in an airport or visiting a hospital. A frothy cappuccino is my first choice off the coffee menu but as I sit here thinking, I am wondering what the draw is of the foam. I do like the flavor and have been known to use my finger to get it out of a cup when no spoon is provided (much to the chagrin of the people I am with) but really, why the foam. I guess I will never be able to explain that. I’ll just go on enjoying it.
According to the National Day of Calendar Achille Gaggia invented the modern espresso machine in 1945 which further popularized the cappuccino in Italy. In the Mid 1990s – Cappuccino was made more widely available to North Americans as upscale coffee houses sprang up. While steaming the milk you must pay close attention to attain the correct ratio of foam, thus making the cappuccino one of the most difficult espresso-based beverages to make properly.
I do like the pictures some baristas draw in the foam. I’m sure that takes a gentle hand, practice and patience. Not many of the cups of cappuccino I have had were decorated with pictures, but that would be worth paying for. I guess it doesn’t lend itself very will to to-go cups. Maybe I should plan a lunch-date with my girlfriends and go some place we can order a fancy cappuccino instead of our usual glass of wine. I know, the wine is more expensive, but we all have our priorities.

I also love cappuccino’s, Susan. I have one every morning at work. They do make me a bit hyper so I never have more than one.
